Well, now that we have the spam problem under control (touch wood), I'm going to post a Lisp-related commercial plug. Although it's not for me...

Marco Baringer and Drew Crampsie have launched a partnership between bese (sponsors of the UnCommon Web Lisp framework) and The Tech Co-op (where Bill Clemenson works, I believe).

The new entity is called Common-Lisp.biz, and apparently they provide "six different services: Custom Development, Maintenance, General Consulting, Crisis Assistance and Fire-fighting, Technical Support, Box Sets, Hosting and Deployment Support and Training."

It all sounds very good, and I for one would like to think that such an endeavour could succeed. On that note, I hope that Roger's consulting work (Lisp or otherwise) is going well.

Cheers,

John :^P

I also wish the best for Common-Lisp.biz. It's great to see Lisp based businesses being formed and growing.

Our business is going well--our formal incorporation completed today. We are now Corman Technologies Inc.

We have been fortunate to have some time between contracts (I am always the optimist) to work on the next release of Corman Lisp and I believe users will be very impressed by improved stability as well as new IDE features, and it includes a new Othello game built with the mini-GUI framework. Our employee Ethan built this as one of his first Lisp programs, and he has gone on to add significant enhancements to the IDE (such as dynamic menus of Lisp function and variable declarations that pop you to the place in the file that you select).

Our primary business these days is medical software contracts, and we have some excellent new opportunities there. We leverage our Lisp technology where we can, and spread the word about Lisp. The hospital product I developed for Eclipsys is enjoying widespread use and runs a Lisp engine (that I wrote) internally. While the software tools market is very difficult to make money in (with so many free tools out there, and loss-leader sponsorship by companies like Sun, Microsoft and IBM), the medical market is huge and growing. Hence our priorities.

But our Lisp work is what I will always be most proud of and we will continue to develop Corman Lisp and to support it as a key product and company differentiator. People in the medical informatics area are mostly familiar with Lisp and I generally find they are impressed by our work in this area.

Roger
